WTA Rankings: January 10, 2011
Greta Arn is one of the big movers in the Top 100, because of her Auckland Classic title. She moves from #88 to a career high of #58. Peng Shuai, a semifinalist there, went up from #72 to #62. Julia Goerges, the other semifinalist, moved from #40 to #38. Simona Halep, a quarterfinalist, moved from #84 to #78. Kateryna Bondarenko, another quarterfinalist, rose from #99 to #89. Finally, the surprise quarterfinalist, Heather Watson, zoomed from #176 to #149.
Petra Kvitova, the Brisbane champion, secures her seeding in the Australian Open, as she moves from #34 to #28. Usually, the top 32 in the rankings are seeded in a Grand Slam. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, a semifinalist, enters the Top 20, moving from #21 to #18. Jarmila Groth, a quarterfinalist, inches up from #42 to #40.
