FO 2012: Matches I've Seen - Juan Martin del Potro vs. Albert Montanes

Albert Montanes is no pushover when it comes to the clay courts of Roland Garros.  He did reach the round of 16 last year so it was a bit unfortunate for him to be drawn to play Juan Martin Del Potro in the first round.  Del Potro hasn't had good results this clay court season but being a Top 10 player, he has the wealth of experience and ability to rise up in difficult situations.

Del Potro expectedly won the first set.  However, Montanes rose to the occasion in the second round, winning the tiebreak at 76.  However, after being at 22 in the third set, Montanes' game collapsed and allowed Del Potro to win the next nine games.  He halted it at the tenth game which he won, but that was a case of a little too late.  Del Potro won the fourth set, 61.

It was cool to see Del Potro just raise his game when he needed to but his knee problem may hinder him as he goes deeper into the tournament.
