I was naive to think that tennis, unlike cycling, athletics or swimming, would be a sport free from doping scandals. Now that it was announced that around 55 players have been suspended this year, with Maria Sharapova being the most famous, it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, knowing that Maria has been taking that substance for 10 years.
It makes you wonder if she took that substance in some of the grand slams she won. It's like the Lance Armstrong nightmare all over again, only this time, it's in the tennis world!
However, the women's tour is very deep in talent and although majority of them hasn't reached the levels of popularity that Maria or Serena or Venus has reached, rest assured that Maria won't really be missed.
Whatever the decision of the powers-that-be are, tennis players who take performance enhancing drugs and those who allow themselves to be used by tennis match fixers should never be allowed to play.
Cheating just takes out the joy of watching the sport!
