Every Grand Slam, I feature players who have reached the third round of that Slam but is ranked outside the Top 100. Technically, you'd have to be ranked within the Top 32 to be at least in that round. This way, I get to know up and coming players breaking out of the rankings.
The first player in the draw I'm featuring is Frenchman Nicolas Devilder, currently ranked #286. Four years ago, Nicolas was ranked #60 in the world, his highest rank ever. He has also reached the second round of Wimbledon and the US Open.
Here in Roland Garros this year, he won over Serbian Filip Krajinovic, ranked #630 62 62 60. He then defeated Michael Berrer of Germany, ranked #114 in the 2nd round, 76(5) 64 62. His third round assignment would be his toughest yet - world #1 Novak Djokovic.
