Two years ago, Michael Berrer was a Top 50 player, reaching as high as #42 in the world. However, this week, he's currently ranked #114. He reached the third round of Roland Garros last year, and has also reached the second round of the other three slams. What makes his entry into the second round sweeter this year is because of his rank - although his previous pedigree shows what he can actually do on a good year.
He upset former Roland Garros semifinalist Jurgen Melzer in the first round 67(5) 46 62 62 63, but lost to Nicolas Devilder of France in the second round 67(5) 46 26. Devilder is currently ranked #286.
Unfortunately, his performance here still falls short of his third round performance last year, so his ranking would be bound to go lower when it's released in two weeks.
