Rafael Nadal: Quarterfinalist - Australian Open 2011
I admit I was one of those people who were surprised to see Nadal lose today to David Ferrer, in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. I saw him play the whole week and he was at the top of his game, demolishing opponent after opponent. And he did not seem to have any injury. But today, he said he has an injury, which may be the reason why he lost. Really, Rafa? Or maybe because David Ferrer just played solid tennis today! And the scoreline - impressive! Anyhow, this was Rafa's path to the quarterfinals -
QF - lost to David Ferrer (ESP) (#7) 64 62 63
4R - Marin Cilic (CRO) (#15) 62 64 63
3R - Bernard Tomic (AUS) (#199) 62 75 63
2R - Ryan Sweeting (USA) 62 61 61
1R - Marcos Daniel (BRA) 60 50 Retd.
If you check his opponents, he was never pushed last week, so when he met someone of David's caliber, he was just unprepared for it. And paid the price. Anyhow, Rafa has had a colorful history of extreme peaks and valleys in his career, so we will see his phoenix rise again soon!
