Petra Kvitova: Brisbane International 2011 Champion
Well, her Wimbledon semi-final appearance last year was not a fluke. She can actually follow it up with the first WTA Tour title of 2011! She was not even seeded in this tournament. She entered the tournament ranked #34. This should go up next week and we expect her to be a seeded player in time for the Australian Open.
Her victory over Andrea Petkovic had an emphatic scoreline 61 63.
This was Petra's path to the championship -
F - Andrea Petkovic (GER) (#32) 61 63
SF - Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS) (#21) 64 46 62
QF - Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) (#31) 60 64
2R - Ksenia Pervak (RUS) (#97) 16 64 62
1R - Nadia Petrova (RUS) (#15) 76(#) 63
Petra had wins over three players currently ranked higher than her! That's a good gauge of what she can do and hopefully she does well in the upcoming Australian Open.
