Juan Martin del Potro was the surprise bronze medalist in the last London Olympics defeating Novak Djokovic in the bronze medal match. He then extended his wins to a semifinal appearance at the Cincinnati Open, where Novak got the better of him. However, he had wins over Victor Troicki, Jeremy Chardy and Tommy Haas.
