Tomas Berdych: A Champion Once Again
Although ranked in the Top 10 for the past year, Tomas Berdych (#10) hasn't won a championship trophy to come with the illustrious ranking. I think his good ranking was mostly due to the good performances he puts in during the Grand Slams.
He finally ended the drought today as he defeated Marin Cilic (#25) in the Beijing Open 36 64 61. In his semifinal match, he edged Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (#7), one of his rivals in the year-end championships, 64 46 61. In his quarterfinal match, he almost blanked Fernando Verdasco (#23) 61 60. He almost did the same thing to Philipp Kohlschreiber (#52) in the second round 62 60. Finally, his first round match was against the highly regarded Jurgen Melzer (#21) 75 75.
