This is the second year that I'm playing this fantasy game. This year, we will be including Australia and New Zealand into the mix. I will be using the rankings released on December 14, 2011.
Well, I will pair the Top 16 in Asia and Australia using how the Top 16 was drawn in this year's Beijing Open. With that, here are the eight pairings based on the rankings, regardless of how many entries there are per country -
Upper Draw:
Li Na (CHN) (1) vs. Akgul Amanmuradova (UZB) (14)
Tamarine Tanasugarn (THA) (12) vs. Galina Voskoboeva (KAZ) (7)
Peng Shuai (CHN) (3) vs. Misaki Doi (JPN) (16)
Kimiko Date Krumm (JPN) (11) vs. Zheng Jie (CHN) (5)
Lower Draw:
Ayumi Morita (JPN) (6) vs. Sania Mirza (IND) (10)
Yung-Jan Chan (TPE) (15) Jarmila Gajdosova (AUS) (4)
Marina Erakovic (NZL) (8) vs. Jelena Dokic (AUS) (9)
Anastasia Rodionova (AUS) (13) vs. Samantha Stosur (AUS) (2)
Australia has the most entries, with four, led by US Open Champion Samantha Stosur, Jelena Dokic, Jarmila Gajdosova and Anastasia Rodionova. Japan has three entries with Misaki Doi, Kimiko Date Krumm, and Ayumi Morita. China also has three entries with Li Na, Peng Shuai and Zheng Jie. Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Thailand, India, New Zealand and Chinese-Taipei have one entry each.
