It has been a fantastic second half of 2011 for Monica Niculescu as her continued success after the US Open has propelled her right into the the world's Top 36!
After being a surprise fourth rounder in the US Open, she got to the semi's in Beijing and the finals here in Luxembourg. She has reached as high as #47 in 2008 though but her rank now of #34 has been her highest ever.
Here in Luxembourg, she lost to Victoria Azarenka (#3) in the finals 26 26, but won over Anne Keothavong (#93) in the semifinals 75 46 63. In the quarters, she defeated Lucie Hradecka (#51) 64 64. In the second round, she won over Anabel Medina Garrigues (#28) 76(5) 36 61. In the first round, she had a major battle with Karin Knapp (#158) 67(2) 75 76(3).
