Analyzing the Women's Draw of Wimbledon 2011: The First Segment of the Draw
Well, I just checked the uppermost segment of the women's draw and Maria Sharapova should be the player in that side of the draw that is most likely to reach the semifinal. Maria has been playing very confidently these past few weeks. She won the Rome title and then went on to the semifinals of the French Open, a surface where she still has to win the major.
She is however, comfortable in grass, and has a title here already. Her most likely quarterfinal opponent - well, world #1 Caroline Wozniacki. Wozniacki actually won the Copenhagen title on grass but I don't think she has the mental stamina to defeat Sharapova on this surface, especially now that Maria has so much confidence. I still think Wozniacki won't make her breakthrough in Wimbledon this year.
Strong also-rans on this side of the draw are Chinese up-and-coming player, Peng Shuai, who is now in the Top 20; Julia Goerges of Germany, who made her breakthrough during the clay season - she's also in the Top 20 right now.
Samantha Stosur is also on this side of the draw, along with Lucie Safarova, Dominika Cibulkova and Jarmila Gajodosova - all possible foilers for my top 2 picks!
