Rafa Nadal: Truly the Contemporary King of Clay
Rafa came to this year's French Open as a bit of an underdog. He did win some clay tournaments leading to Roland Garros but those were eclipsed by two sensational wins by Novak Djokovic over him in Madrid and Rome, just a few weeks before the French Open. This sense of invincibility also seemed to waver when John Isner, took him to five sets in their first round encounter! However, as the days wore on, Rafa became stronger and stronger, and eventually found his old self and slowly but surely made his way to the semi-final (which he won handily over Andy Murray), and the final (where he demonstrated dominance over archrival Roger Federer).
As for Novak, Roger took care of him in the semi-final. So there would be no changing of the guard yet, at least not on clay. Rafa, even with some losses on the side, still wants the Roland Garros title very much. Till next year!
