Wimbledon 2011: My Picks for the Women's Side
It's always difficult to predict the women's side since it's again, such a wide open race. Even with the Williams sisters in the draw, since the two are just in their second tournament of the year, and have very few competitive matches to show for the year.
Well, my picks for the semifinals look like this:
Upper Draw: Maria Sharapova (RUS) vs. Marion Bartoli (FRA)
Lower Draw: Francesca Schiavone (ITA) vs. Vera Zvonareva (RUS)
I think it's going to be a Russian final this time around with Sharapova slugging it out with Zvonareva. Maria has been very vocal lately in her desire to win Wimbledon for a second time, and she might just get it. It's going to be tough but it's possible.
Is there a possibility for her to meet any of the Williams sisters? Well, if the tigresses really rise to the occasion, Maria will have to slay both of them if she wants to win the title. Serena in the semi's and Venus in the finals. Of course, that doesn't count out the other current Top 10 players who are just as hungry for a Grand Slam title.
So, let the fun begin!
