Flavia Pennetta: Too Close Yet Too Far in the Beijing Open
It has been a season of close misses for Flavia Pennetta. She almost made it into her very first semifinal in the US Open this year - but she lost to Angelique Kerber.
A similar thing happens here in the Beijing Open, where she almost reaches the finals, only to fall to red-hot Agnieszka Radwanska (#12), who will now contest her second straight title in two weeks! Agnieszka slew Flavia 26 46.
All of Flavia's opponents were of high quality. Her biggest scalp though, came in the quarterfinals, where she defeated world #1 Caroline Wozniacki 36 60 76(2). She also won over Dominika Cibulkova (#22) 61 46 64 in the third round. She defeated Daniela Hantuchova (#25) in the second round 62 61 and in the first round, she defeated hometown hopeful Peng Shuai (#15) 76(6) 75.
