I actually grew up enthralled by the achievements of pole vault world record holder Sergei Bubka, so I was intrigued to find out that he now has a grown up son, who carries the same name, but who has decided to venture instead into the more glamorous world of men's tennis.
Sergei Bubka, the son, entered the US Open ranked #207. He had to qualify to get into main draw and won his first round match against Austrian Andreas Haiden-Maurer (#73) 63 62 36 64. He had a tough second round draw though in #11 Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 36 57 26.
