Twelve years ago, Roger Federer lifted the 1st of his four Australian Open trophies but it has been 7 years since he has figured in the championship fight here.
That may be the case again this year. But you have to hand it to the guy. He is still the favorite in his side of the draw as shown by his current ranking of #3. To still be in the top 3 after 12 years is for me, such an amazing achievement, considering the depth of talent in the men's game.
For him to keep up with the young turks and still play at a very high level is achievement enough.
His potential foes in his side of the draw include Dolgopolov, Benneteau, Dimitrov and Berdych. His biggest challenge is how to topple current top player Novak off his perch. If he can do that in the semi's, he can have a good chance of taking title #5.
