Welcome Back to the Winners Circle Zheng Jie!
It is with great delight that I read today that Zheng Jie (#48) has finally broken her funk to win the Auckland title this year. Bravo Zheng! She was actually performing well, when suddenly, in the latter part of last year, she just kept on losing. Well, that's past now, and I'm glad to see her hoist another trophy (her fourth WTA title).
She defeated Flavia Pennetta in the final when the latter retired. This was Zheng's path to the championship
F- defeated Flavia Pennetta (ITA) (#20) 26 63 20 RET.
SF - Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS) (#19) 26 63 63
QF - Lucie Hradecka (CZE) (#52) 62 63
2R - Monica Niculescu (ROU) (#30) 60 62
1R - Ayumi Morita (JPN) (#49) 46 63 64
