Eleni Daniilidou of Greece, currently ranked #204 and Jill Craybas of the US, currently ranked #106, post respectable wins this week to both make it to the quarterfinals of their respective tournaments - Daniilidou in Linz and Craybas in Osaka. Craybas eventually lost to Bartoli, while Daniilidou lost to Petkovic.
Patty Schnyder of Switzerland, another veteran, reaches the semi's today of the Linz Open with a win over Hantuchova. In Osaka, two Asian veterans reach the finals, beating players in the current Top 20. Kimiko Date Krumm beats Shahar Peer of Israel, while Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand, won over Marion Bartoli of France. The final between the two becomes the oldest ever, in the WTA tour! Krumm is 40 while Tanasugarn is 33. This is a pretty interesting development for the WTA tour! It can show to the young players that you can actually still have a competitive career at that age! Go Kimiko and Tamarine!
