Juan Martin Del Potro: Male Breakthrough Player for Wimbledon 2016

Juan Martin del Potro has just been awarded the Breakthrough Player for Wimbledon 2016.  This award is given to the lowest ranked player that goes the deepest in the specified tournament.

Currently ranked #165, everyone in the tennis world knows that Juan Martin del Potro is one of those guys that can do real damage to the best players in the draw today.

So it was no surprise to see him defeat Stan Wawrinka, who is currently the 4th best player in the world, in their second round Wimbledon match 36 63 76(2) 63.

After being gone for two years due to operations needed in his wrist, del Potro began to actively compete again earlier this year, around February, and the way he played today against Wawrinka shows how much damage he can do to a top player if he's back in healthy form.

In the first round, del Potro easily dismissed Stephane Robert (#79) of France 61 75 60.

However, Lucas Pouille (#30) of France denies him further advancement as Pouille wins their 3rd round match 76(4) 67(6) 57 16.

Nevertheless, a third round performance and a win over a top four player should give del Potro more confidence to perform in all the tournaments.
