It's a bit unusual to see Serena Williams being rebuffed three consecutive times in three grand slams, with the Wimbledon title of 2016 as her last time to hoist one.
Even then, she still remains to be the person to beat once again in this year's Wimbledon, being the defending champion as well.
She is set to meet Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (#23) of Russia in the quarterfinals and probably Dominika Cibulkova (#18) of Slovakia in the semi's.
The possibility of an all-Williams final is possible, as her sister Venus is also in a quarterfinal in the bottom part of the draw.
That would be an interesting development if it does shape up.
