I turned the TV on around 9:30 this morning wanting to catch the match between Petra Cetkovska and last year's US Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki. I like Caro and I knew Petra could make the match interesting because she had already reached the 4th round of Wimbledon before, so I knew the occasion would not really faze her.
I didn't realize that she'd play so well and as their more than 3 hour match with Caro unraveled, Petra practically showed all the ups and downs that goes with an underdog fighting a tennis Goliath. It was very emotional to see her steady herself during the third set tiebreak and have as many matchpoints as she wanted - 6 to 1, to ensure that she wins this match.
Her ranking now (#149) may be deceiving because she's a former top 30 player and has several match wins over top 10 players. Injury has just sidelined her. Anyhow, it was just wonderful to see her lay it all out tonight, and as she said in the post-interview match, "It was now or never!".
