It's always a joy to see some of my favorite players achieve their best form in an unexpected manner. Earlier this year, it was great to see Lucie Safarova reach the French Open final.
Tonight, it was great to see the steady and consistent Flavia Pennetta trip the high-ranked Simona Halep. She remained unfazed throughout the match although she had her share of unforced errors and she took it to Halep in the latter stage of the second set, to finally get into the first grand slam final of her career.
Hilaw pa talaga si Simona Halep. This is only her first US Open semifinal and only her second trip to a grand slam semifinal, so she really needs more mental toughness and that ability to handle the pressure of being a favorite.
An all-Italian final in the women's game? Well, let's see how Serena Williams handles all the pressure, now knowing that her calendar grand slam is for her to lose.
