Alexandra Dulgheru Slays Wimbledon Champion, Petra Kvitova

Alexandra Dulgheru Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania returns a shot against Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden during day four of the 2010 U.S. Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on September 2, 2010 in the Flushing neighborhood of the Queens borough of New York City.

Alexandra Dulgheru (#49) of Romania defeats 2011 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova (#6) 76(3) 63 in the first round of the US Open.  This was certainly a surprise to me since I picked Petra Kvitova as the woman most likely to challenge Serena Williams in the finals.  But I guess, it's not meant to be.  Petra just looked out of sorts out there and had 50+ unforced errors!  Que horror!

This certainly opens the door in their part of the draw, and compatriot, Lucie Safarova may gain from the loss, gaining access as far as the fourth round, while Radwanska in the quarters and potentially, Maria Sharapova in the semi's and the finals!
