Ivan Dodig: Surprise Semifinalist in Barcelona
It is but fitting that Ivan Dodig of Croatia, gets the semifinal slot in his side of the draw since he was the one who ousted Robin Soderling (#5), the highest seed in their group. After winning over Soderling, Dodig proceeded to defeat Raonic (#28) and Feliciano Lopez (#42), and will next meet the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal (#1). He is currently ranked #55. The two have actually never met so it would be interesting as to how Nadal would deal with a new entity. This should also be a good basis for Dodig to see how he fares in clay, knowing that he can beat a finalist of the French Open (Soderling). Now can he take a step forward and defeat a defending champion? We'll see tomorrow.
