This is the player whom I want to see hold the women's Australian Open title in a week's time. Caro is already so overdue for that grand slam - and her chances here are really good this year, because, not only is she playing so well, her usual nemeses like Serena, Venus and Maria have either been resting or have already been booted out from the tournament.
She has some upcoming tough matches though. Her next opponent is Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia who was a semifinalist in Wimbledon last year. She's on a confident high right now and may feel like she has nothing to lose here. So Caro must beware a bit.
In the QFs, Anett Kontaveit is a possible opponent, and I saw yesterday how she dispatched Jelena Ostapenko. She has the flat strong groundstrokes to rattle Caro.
So Caro better play her A-game if she wants to go to the semi's. Her possible opponent there is Elina Svitolina of the Ukraine and possibly Simona Halep in the finals.
