It would be hard to count Rafael Nadal out in the 2018 Australian Open, especially that he has a draw which would allow him to secure a semifinal slot easily.
However, since I use actual head-to-head statistics in my prognostication, Marin Cilic, is the player who comes out as the safest bet to reach the semi's in their side of the draw. However, Cilic's recent foray in Melbourne has been dismal, peppered mostly by 2nd and 3rd round wins.
The player that has a 1-0 win-loss record against Nadal is Bosnian Damir Dzumhur, who is seeded here, and may possibly meet Rafa in the 3rd round. Anyhow, he along with Alexandr Dolgopolov and current top 10 player, Pablo Carreno Busta, are some of the dark horses on this side of the draw.
