Simona Halep should have had two French Open titles by now, but she lost gallantly in two epic finals to two very worthy adversaries (Maria Sharapova and Jelena Ostapenko) in two thrilling finals.
She's back at #1 right now and should be the woman to beat now that Serena and Vika are on childbirth leave and Sharapova and Kerber are still finding their old form. Incidentally, both women are going to meet later today.
There are many great players who may stop Halep in her side of the draw, including the very tricky Czech Karolina Pliskova. Caroline Garcia seems like her semifinal opponent for now, while Caroline Wozniacki is a possible finals opponent.
With her four hour match today against the American Lauren Davis, she may have been battle tested already as she goes into the last four but most crucial rounds. Her confidence must be on a real high today, I just hope her body recovers quickly for her next round match.
