I was surprised to find out that Florian Mayer made it as far as the quarterfinals when he debuted here in Wimbledon in 2004! Imagine that! I didn't know this guy was that good. Like his compatriot, Philipp Kohlschreiber, he has been flying under the radar, staying at the 20s and 30s in the rankings for the past 8 years.
He upended Frenchman Richard Gasquet, to get to his second grand slam quarterfinal and although his next opponent, Novak Djokovic, seems daunting, at least just being there and doing his best would suffice! I mean, if Rosol can defeat Nadal, who's to say, that any of these guys in the quarters can do it too! I mean, at least, against Federer, Djokovic and Murray.
Let's see what Mayer does in his next chance of a semifinal.
