Known more for her exploits on clay, Simona Halep, the current world #2, and a quarterfinalist here in Wimbledon last year, has, again, like in Roland Garros, a very good chance to snare the title.
Her true test will happen today as she meets Victoria Azarenka. Whoever wins this match has a very good chance of taking the title next week. For now, Vika is ranked #683, but that does not really reflect what she can do.
However, I still place my bet on Simona since she's the in-form player and should be able to fight for the points when things get very tight.
After Vika, Caroline Garcia, Venus Williams and Garbine Muguruza are all possible opponents, so the road to the title is still going to be very hard fought.
