Australian Open 2013 Fearless Forecast: Men's Top Lower Draw

With Rafael Nadal still on the sidelines, David Ferrer is making full use of his compatriot's absence, since it allows him to go up on the rankings and hence, a top slot on one side of the draw of the Grand Slam he is in - including this year's Australian Open.

In the draw that he gets for this year's Australian Open, David gets a fair shot of getting the semifinal slot for this side of the draw.  His prospective opponents include  Ivo Karlovic, Marcos Baghdatis, Kei Nishikori, and Janko Tipsarevic - all tough - but none that David couldn't handle.  In the past, David has shown that he can play well in all surfaces so I won't be surprised if he gets the semifinal slot of his part of the draw.  Other prospective opponents he could meet are Mikhail Youzhny and Jerzy Janowicz, last year's wonder boy.
