Interestingly, Serena Williams has been absent from any of the Australian Open women's finals, for the past three years! Well, she started 2014 with a big bang by winning the Brisbane Open, so this should be the year Serena lifts the Australian Open trophy again, for the sixth time.
Or at least, have a fighting chance of doing so, after seeing her draw. She should easily be the one to get the semifinal slot in her side of the draw and I pick Sara Errani as her most likely quarterfinal opponent. She doesn't have an easy road though as she will most likely run into veterans Daniela Hantuchova and Ana Ivanovic as she progresses.
Vera Zvonareva, who is returning this year, is also on her side of the draw but I just pick her to reach the second round. The top Italians, Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani should be the ones slugging it out to meet Serena in the quarters.
Let's see how it all unravels tomorrow!
