Tomas Berdych: Quarterfinalist - Australian Open 2011
Tomas Berdych (#6) reaches the quarterfinals of the Australian Open this year. This is his best finish yet in the Australian Open. Ever since he broke through last year and reached the finals in Wimbledon, Tomas has been making big strides in the Grand Slams. This year though, he only reaches this far, as he lost to Novak Djokovic today. This is his path to the quarterfinals -
QF - lost to Novak Djokovic (SRB) (#3) 61 76(5) 61
4R - Fernando Verdasco (ESP) (#9) 64 62 63
3R - Richard Gasquet (FRA) (#33) 62 76(3) 62
2R - Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER) (#35) 46 62 63 64
1R - Marco Crugnola (ITA) (#237) 64 60 62
I'm rather surprised that Tomas didn't put much of a fight in his quarterfinal match with Djokovic. Except in the second set which he almost won, he was rather placid compared to the excellent shotmaking Novak displayed today.
