Wimbledon 2017: On Paper, The Title is for Roger Federer's to Lose

On paper, the Wimbledon 2017 title should be Roger Federer's to lose, but I don't know if it's a closed deal already.
I have seen the other three guys play and they're just brimming with confidence. Tomas Berdych defeated David Ferrer, Thiem and Djokovic with dominating play, he could give Roger a real scare in their semi's.
On the other side, Marin Cilic has been very composed and very methodical in his dismantling of Kohlschreiber, Mayer, Johnson, Muller and Bautista Agut,he really looks like a contender for another grand slam title.
As for Sam Querrey, he knocked out Novak last year, at Novak's peak, and then parlayed it to a semi's berth this year, defeating Murray, Tsonga and Anderson, so his confidence is sky high!
It just means we are going to get two exciting semi's matches.
As for me, Marin Cilic would be my personal pick. It would be cool if he does give Croatia another Wimbledon title.
That would put him one over Goran Ivanisevic!

Wimbledon 2016: Tomas Berdych Poised to Take Semi-Final Slot

Tomas Berdych (#9) of the Czech Republic has been under the radar in this year's Wimbledon, but with the shock defeat of Wawrinka because of del Potro, he now becomes the center of attention on his side of the draw.

He does have to neutralize the power of his up-and-coming countryman Jiri Vesely (#64) who has been on an upsets streak of higher-ranked players.

On paper, Bernard Tomic (#19) is his expected opponent in the quarterfinals and he also has a winning record over him.

If he does reach the semi-finals, it will be his second best performance here after being runner-up in 2010.  I'm sure that is what he wants to happen.

Wimbledon 2016: Stan Wawrinka Wants to Conquer Grass

Looks like Stan Wawrinka is serious in improving his QF best performance the past two Wimbledons this year by hiring former champ Richard Krajicek as a coach specifically for grass.

Interestingly, the draw where he is in also helps him as his potential opponents include Leonardo Mayer, Mikhail Kukushkin and Tomas Berdych, a former finalist here. He is my pick to get the semifinal slot in his side of the draw.

It would be interesting to see how Krajicek influences his glass play and if it can bring immediate results.

2015 US Open: Veteran Jurgen Melzer Makes Most of Limited Time

Now at 34 years old, veteran Austrian player Jurgen Melzer (#132) makes the most of the limited time that he's got and gets to the second round of the US Open for the ninth time.  This time, he won over American Denis Kudla (#75) 63 75 61.

It will be like old times in the second round, as he will meet Tomas Berdych (#6) of the Czech Republic.

Jurgen is a former top 10 player reaching as high as #8 in 2011. His best showing here in Flushing Meadows was in the fourth round in 2010.

His best showing in a grand slam is in the semifinals of Roland Garros in 2010.

This is his 34th appearance in the second round or beyond in all of the grand slams.

2015 US Open Draw: Roger Federer Still Taking His Chances

It's amazing that with all the new talent that's in the men's game nowadays, that Roger Federer in his mature age, has managed to stay within striking distance of another grand slam glory. It almost happened in Wimbledon, it may happen again in Flushing Meadows.

As it is, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray seem to be his most tricky opponents but you never know what happens in the six stages before one reaches the finals.

With Federer's victory in Cincinnati, he has shown to the field that he still means business and wants that elusive 18th grand slam title. His potential opponents before reaching the semi-finals may include Kohlschreiber, Isner and Berdych and I think, Roger has a good record against all of them.

Wimbledon 2015: A Great Chance to Lift Another Grand Slam Trophy for the Maestro

Now that the maestro is in his favorite surface and that he won a warm up tournament leading to this year's Wimbledon, everyone is abuzz again of Roger Federer's chances of adding another grand slam to his already impressive collection.

His chances have been helped by fate putting him in a side of the men's draw where he can and should get the semifinal slot. He has had a more emphatic grass season than the other three guys he might meet prior to that semifinal, Gilles Simon, Tomas Berdych and Feliciano Lopez.

It's what happens after the semifinal where everything becomes more interesting - as possible opponents include Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, who I think are the other two most likely in-form top players right now in the men's draw - and who have the credentials to succeed in grass.

French Open 2015: Tomas Berdych Flexes Clay Court Prowess

Tomas Berdych, like Andy Murray, is not a name you would normally associate with clay court prowess. But his consistent results this clay court season plus his ascendancy to #4 in the world places him in a very lucky section of the draw - lucky because he doesn't have the formidable 4 in his side of the draw.
It doesn't mean though that it's going to be a walk in the park for him since there are many journeymen players on his draw who are adept as well on clay. Possible encounters could include Fernando Verdasco, Lukas Rosol, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
On paper though, he is still the player to beat and the most likely player to get the semifinal slot on his side of the draw.

Tomas Berdych Into the Semi's of the Aussie Open for the Second Year in a Row

Tomas Berdych gets into the semi-finals of the Australian Open for the second year in a row, this year, disposing of Rafael Nadal in straight sets, breaking a 17-losing streak against Nadal, in the process.  Berdych has been performing solidly in the Australian Open for the past four years. reaching the quarterfinals twice and now the semifinals twice.

He does have a very good chance of making the finals this time as he faces a resurgent Andy Murray in the semi's.  Berdych is playing very cleanly this time and if he continues to do that, he has a really good chance of winning this tournament.
