WTA Top Tennis Nations 2011: #2 Czech Republic
The Czech Republic maintains its #2 position in the WTA Top Tennis Nations for 2011, although she lost two players out of the Top 100. This year marked the return of Czech women's tennis to the top as their #1 player, Petra Kvitova won the Wimbledon and the yearend championships. She's currently at #2 now.
At #25 is Lucie Safarova, Petra Cetkovska at #31, Klara Zakopalova at #41, Barbora Zahlavova Strycova at #44, Iveta Benesova at #54 and Lucie Hradecka at #52. And there's many of them coming up the pipeline so expect the Czech presence to be strong in 2012.

Iveta Benesova: Surprise Fourth Round Performance Australian Open 2011

Iveta Benesova, currently ranked #60, made a surprise entry into the fourth round of the Australian Open today. She has been playing all week, coming up with victories over players ranked higher than her. Her first round opponent was Spanish veteran Anabel Medina Garrigues where she only allowed one game for her opponent. Then, she conceded only four games to last year's quarterfinalist Maria Kirilenko. Then today, she upset 16th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia 63 16 75. In the fourth round, she will meet #2 seed Vera Zvonareva. She's one of the two Czech players to make it into the fourth round of the Australian Open, the other one being Petra Kvitova.
