With so many of the top women's seeds falling by the wayside in this year's Wimbledon, Simona Halep may find herself in the center of prognostication once again in SW19, as unseeded players have laid waste against the top seeds in her corner of the draw.
With Johanna Konta out of the tournament, Simona Halep emerges as the best bet to reach the semifinal stage of her side of the draw.
She has been playing very well in the first two rounds but may meet better opposition in Elise Mertens and a possible rematch with French Open nemesis Jelena Ostapenko. That would indeed be a very interesting pairing, if it does pan out.
Can she reach the finals? With her level of confidence right now, I am sure of it. Does she have a shot at the title? I think if she plays steady per round, staying competitive even when she's down, I think she can make a Wimby breakthrough this year.
