When British player James Ward (#110) entered the main draw of Wimbledon in 2009, he reached the second round. Six years later, he reaches the third round for the first time. He is one of three British players to reach at least the second round of this Wimbledon.
In the first round, he defeated Italian Luca Vanni (#113) 67(4) 62 64 63. Then, he outlasted Jiri Vesely (#46) of the Czech Republic 62 76(3) 36 63 in the second round. Then, he lost to Canadian Vasek Pospisil (#54) in the third round 46 63 62 36 68 in a very tight match.
With his performance here, he should break into the top 100 by next week.
