Croatian player Donna Vekic, currently ranked #165, is the female breakthrough player for this year's French Open. This award is given to the lowest-ranked player (preferably outside the top 100), who goes deepest into the grand slam (usually 3rd or 4th round). Donna Vekic had wins over France's Caroline Garcia and Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski. She lost to Ana Ivanovic in the third round.
