Su-Wei Hsieh wins 2012 Kuala Lumpur Championship |
When the draw for the Kuala Lumpur championship came out, you would most likely not pick Chinese-Taipei player, Su-Wei Hsieh as the probable champion, as she came in ranked #123, and was in the same side of the draw as Top 10 player, Agnieszka Radwanska.
However, slowly but surely, this rising star from Chinese-Taipei, defeated opponent after opponent in every round, starting with Anne Keothavong (#79) in the first round 64 75, Casey Dellacqua (#103) in the second round 61 75, had a lucky walkover over Agnieszka Radwanska (#5) in the quarterfinal, had a tough semifinal against Greek veteran Eleni Daniliidou (#81) 60 46 61 and then vanquished Croatian Petra Martic (#66) in the finals, 26 75 41.
Hsieh just hung on in each point and finally won the title when Martic retired. She had a very tough semifinal match against Serbian Jelena Jankovic the day before, a game which completely tired her out.
