Vera Dushevina: Player Ranked Outside the Top 100 Who Reached the 2d Round of the US Open 2012

Veteran Russian player Vera Dushevina has been to the third round of the US Open twice (2004, 2007) and she hopes to achieve that this year as she wins her first round match against Italian Nastassja Burnett.

WTA Rankings Watch: October 11, 2010

The Beijing Open has a very strong influence in the rankings this week.  It's a very busy week in the rankings and a momentous one at that, since we crown a new #1.  This time, it's the turn of Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, to ascend to the top.  It's her first week at the top, and gauging from her win in Beijing this week, it's a spot she intends to stay a bit longer.

Vera Zvonareva also climbs to #3, her highest rank ever, and her runner up finish in the Beijing Open may have also helped that. 

In the Top 20, there are 2 major movements.  Shahar Peer of Israel goes up 5 places to #13.  She was a semifinalist in Beijing, losing to Caroline Wozniacki.  The other semifinalist, Li Na of China, goes 4 places to #11, where she lost to Vera Zvonareva.

In the Top 50, Ana Ivanovic of Serbia moves seven places to #29.  She was a quarterfinalist in Beijing.  Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland goes up six notches to #47.  She was also a quarterfinalist in Beijing.  Finally, Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia moves eleven spots to #44 helped by her quarterfinal appearance in Beijing. 

In the Top 100, biggest mover was Bojana Jovanovski  of Serbia moves 22 places to #71.  She reached the third round in Beijing.  Ayumi Morita of Japan jumps 19 places to #76.  Finally, Vera Dushevina also moves 11 spots to #53.  She reached the 3rd round in Beijing.
