Sensational Tennis From Andreas Seppi and Stanislas Wawrinka

I was not actually planning to watch the 3rd round match between Andreas Seppi and Stanislas Wawrinka in the Rome Open because I had already seen Seppi play and win the Serbia Open a few weeks ago.  Anyhow, since I was switching between Li Na and Seppi's match, I got hooked with the Italian's match as it took a tiebreak for each set - the first set tiebreak going to Wawrinka, while Seppi took the second set tiebreak - and since Seppi was Italian - watching it became more thrilling and involving since the Rome crowd was pretty vocal about their support for their local player.

Wawrinka had six match points but never converted - and he led the third set 52 and looked set to win the match.  But Seppi had other plans and slowly regained his composure and evened it out at 55.  It eventually led to another thrilling tiebreak and yes, Wawrinka had SEVERAL match pointS at 63 but failed to convert ALL OF THEM! Finally, when Seppi got his first match point at 76, he converted immediately!

Seppi will meet Roger Federer in the quarterfinals tomorrow so let's see how the local crowd will support him.

Italian Andreas Seppi Finally Wins in Serbia

Italian player Andreas Seppi gets to #32 in the world after winning the Serbia Open title today.  This puts him among the probable players to get a seed in the coming Roland Garros tournament.  However, his stay in that rank may be shortlived as the Madrid Open starts later as well, and results there might cause seismic movements again in the rankings.

Anyhow, this is Andreas Seppi's second ATP title and the first for clay.  He won Eastbourne last year.  Today, he won handily over French Benoit Paire 63 62.  He simply did not allow the Frenchman much leeway throughout the match, and Paire's impatience may have cost him many points. He should try to be more patient and build points instead of finishing most of his points by his vaunted drop shot, which did not quite work well today, as Seppi was just plain solid.

Andreas Seppi Dominates Muller in Belgrade Open Quarters

Today was the first time I saw Italian Andreas Seppi play.  He completely threw Gilles Muller off and won himself a semifinal slot in the Belgrade Open.  He looked very comfortable in the court and he was also a former semifinalist in this tournament.  It also helped that Muller was out of sorts in the game.  Seppi won handily in two sets.
