US OPEN 2010: Women Players who reached the Second Round but are ranked out of the Top 100

In this article, I'd like to give recognition to several women players who cracked the Second Round of the US Open 2010, but are ranked outside of the Top 100.  These are the women from the upper half of the draw.

1. Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain, currently ranked # 148, is a former Top 100 player and is back in form as she defeats Shvedova, the #30 seed, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. That is a very convincing win since Shvedova, a semi-finalist at Wimbledon this year, is also playing well.

2.  Mirjana Lucic of Croatia, currently ranked # 150, was a former semi-finalist in Wimbledon a long time ago.  She has been trying to reach the deeper ends of the Slam since, and for this US Open, she wins over another has-been player, Alicia Molik.  Her next opponent is the erratic Jelena Jankovic.  She should give her a good fight!

3.  Tamira Paszek of Austria, currently ranked #196, showed her potential when she reached the quarters of Wimbledon a few years back, but she has since struggled.  However, surprisingly, she defeats Lucie Safarova, the #26 seed, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2, so it shows she is back in some of her former form.  She will face Chan of Chinese Taipei in the second round, and knowing her skills, she should reach the third round, where she might face the #1 seed, Wozniacki.  That should test her level right now.

4.  Urszula Radwanska of Poland, currently ranked #339, is the sister of Top 10 player, Agnieszka Radwanska.  She surprisingly wins her match against Anna Chakvetadze, who returns to the Top 100, 6-3, 6-2.  She has a good chance of reaching the third round as her opponent is Lourdes Dominguez Lino.

5.  Beatrice Capra of the USA is the lowest-ranked player at #371, to have reached the second round at this year's US Open.  She stunned veteran, Karolina Sprem, 6-1, 6-3, and with that scoreline, it shows how much potential this girl has!  Her next opponent though, Aravane Rezai, is now a Top 20 player, so she has her hands full in this round.
