The Rejuvenation of Xavier Malisse in Wimbledon 2011

One of the underachievers in the men's tour, Xavier Malisse is finally into his third fourth round appearance here in Wimbledon.  His last appearance was in 2004.  He was a semifinalist here in 2002.  Malisse has a good chance of making it into the quarterfinals since his opponent in the fourth round is ranked #158 in the world, Australian qualifier Bernard Tomic.  However, Malisse has to play a very good game when they do meet since Tomic looked very impressive in his match against Soderling.

ATP Rankings Watch - March 21, 2011

Novak Djokovic returns to #2 this week, after winning Indian Wells.  Within the Top 100, Juan Martin Del Potro is the biggest mover, due to his semi-final appearance in Indian Wells.  He zooms from #90 to #51.  Olivier Rochus is the highest new entry in the Top 100.  He won the Le Gosier title in Guadaloupe, which explains his rise from #116 to #89.  He has reached up to #24 in 2005.

Finally, Xavier Malisse reenters the Top 50, moving from #52 to #45.  He reached the third round of this week's Indian Wells.

Xavier Malisse - Runner-up: Chennai Open

Xavier Malisse gets to the finals of his first tournament in 2011 in Chennai, but loses to Stanislas Wawrinka 75 46 61.  It's good to see him make it to the final of an ATP tournament, this being his first one in four years. I hope this helps him in his preparation for the upcoming Australian Open.  This was his path to the finals -

F - lost to Stanislas Wawrinka (SUI) (#19) 75 46 61
SF - Janko Tipsarevic (SRB) (#46) 63 36 62
QF - Bjorn Phau (GER) (#88) 60 62
2R - Stephane Robert (FRA) (#124) 62 62
