Daniel Brands: Into 2nd Rd of Australian Open for 2nd Time

Daniel Brands of Germany (#151) gets to the second round of the Australian Open for the second time by defeating Victor Estrella Burgos of the Dominican Republic (#55) 64 76(1) 46 61.  

It's also the fourth time he has reached the second round or deeper of a grand slam.  He reached the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2010.  That's his best showing in a grand slam.

He will next meet Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain (#27) in the second round.

Daniel Brands: Player Outside the Top 100 Who Reached the Second Round of the 2013 #AustralianOpen

Daniel Brands of Germany, currently ranked #120 in the world, won his first round match against Martin Klizan of Slovakia, currently ranked #30 in the world, 63 36 64 62.  That's quite a scalp for Brands, defeating a seeded player.  He will next face local favorite Bernard Tomic in the second round.  It's the first time he has reached the second round of the Australian Open.

Daniel Brands of Germany, ranked #123 in the world, outplayed Adrian Ungur of Romania, ranked #110 in the world, 76(4) 64 76(5) in the first round of the US Open. He will next meet Marin Cilic of Croatia in the second round, ranked #13 in the world.  This is the first time he has reached the second round of the US Open.
