US Open 2016: Marcos Baghdatis Enjoys Best US Open Yet

I was one of those who are happily surprised to see Marcos Baghdatis reach the fourth round of the US Open for the very first time!

For some strange reason, Baghdatis has never gotten to the second week of this grand slam.  He has reached, at least the fourth round in all the other slams, with a runner-up finish in the 2006 Australian Open as his best performance yet.

This is also his best performance in a slam since a 4th round appearance in the 2009 Australian Open.

His ranking should improve after this slam, whatever happens in his match against another performing player, Gael Monfils.

US Open 2016: Lucas Pouille Into Final 16

Lucas Pouille reached the quarterfinal of Wimbledon just a few months ago, so it's no surprise that he also reaches the fourth round of the US Open!  This guy is on a roll!  His ranking though of #66 does not yet reflect his achievements but if he consistently performs this well in the slams, his numbers should improve soon.

For now, he should just enjoy the moment and see how deep he can reach in this grand slam.  He will next meet Rafael Nadal in the fourth round.

He's now definitely playing with the big boys!

US Open 2016: Kyle Edmund's Star Rises

British tennis on both the men and women's side has been producing more players of caliber lately.  Andy Murray has been carrying the flag of the country for a decade now so it's nice to see more players emerge in the men's tour.

I've seen Kyle Edmund's name a few times in the main draw of a grand slam, but this is the first time I've seen him go past the second round!

Currently ranked #84, he just beat John Isner today so his game is definitely improving - and his level of confidence is rising as well!

That's certainly good news as it brings more British men deeper into the tournament!

US Open 2016: Novak Djokovic Escapes Former Vanquisher and Becomes Favorite Again

ow that he has officially won over Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic, Novak Djokovic returns to becoming the favorite of his side of the draw.  There has been news that he's injured but like any classy top player, he downplays it and just concentrates on the job done.

If Novak does reach the semifinals, he may meet Rafael Nadal there and possibly Murray in the final.

But for now, he has to defeat Mikhail Youzhny in the 3rd round, possibly John Isner in the 4th round and probably Marin Cilic in the quarters.  Let's see if he can get through all of them
