Generations Collide as Rafa Locks Arms with Dominic: 2018 Men's French Open Title

More than 20 years ago, I watched the final of the 1995 men's French Open final, where an Austrian, Thomas Muster won the title over Michael Chang, who at that time already won an earlier RG title. But that year, if I'm not mistaken, was the year Muster ruled the clay court season, so it was no surprise he won over Chang in just 3 sets.

Tomorrow, another Austrian, Dominic Thiem, takes to the centerstage in Roland Garros and try to duplicate what Muster had done. The only problem is, he has to take down the greatest player the clay court has ever known, Rafael Nadal, and with the master firing on all cylinders from his earlier rounds, Thiem would have to throw everything at Rafa, including as they say, the kitchen sink, to even win a set.

C'est possible? Ouais, peut-etre.

Thiem has had victories over Rafa on clay, this year in Madrid, and last year in Rome. There is no doubt, he can do it. Question is, can he do it, in Paris, in the most important clay court title of them all?

In a way, the new generation collides with the veterans this time round and methinks the veterans will still triumph in the end.

Simona vs. Sloane Fights for the 2018 French Open Title

One reason why watching sports is pretty exciting is that everything that happened before, all the statistics that back up a player or a team are just that, numbers written on paper - and once in a while - the one who deserves to win - on paper - bites the dust.
All the stats point to the fact that Simona is the clear favorite in this year's women's final for the French Open - world #1, third French Open final, fourth grand slam final, win-loss record over Sloane - but again, who knew Jelena Ostapenko last year when she blasted her way to the finals - and took the match when Simona was almost winning - first set and 0-3 up in the second set. The girl just took it to Simona and stood her ground till the last winning point - much to the tennis world's amazement!
Sports is exciting because the one who deserves to win - the one who really fights for it - at that moment in time - will get the top prize.
Not the one who looked good on paper before the match.
After saying that, Simona dear, all your fans from all over the world will really be let down if you lose this one, big LOL! Talk about handling so much expectations! You really look tougher now, and you were impressive in Kerber and Muguruza's matches.
Sloane is a tricky opponent, because unlike you, she has a grand slam title, and she knows how that moment feels. So we know your armour is already very thick and full of experience, but if you ever let Sloane just take a peek into that armour, she just might win Roland Garros. She looks so calm and happy her smile might just extend with winning that title.
So just hold your ground dear, even when things start to turn to Sloane's favour. This is your moment and the stars have aligned for you to take it.
