Serena: 15th Grand Slam But the Clock is Ticking

I rarely cheer for Serena because I know how good she is so I would normally cheer for her opponent.  However, in today's final between her and Victoria Azarenka, at the point where Vika was already serving for the championship at 5-3 in the third set, I actually didn't want Vika to win just yet, because anyway, she's only 22, and she has all the time to win more grand slams.

Not that Serena needs more, she already had 14 grand slam titles coming to these US Open finals, but still, at 30 years old, how many more grand slam titles can she possibly win?  And with tennis being one of the sports that can cause injuries to players, we're not sure if Serena can stay healthy for another grueling 30+ weeks season!
Anyhow, Serena does win her 15th grand slam title after the dramatic final match tonight and that's well and good!  Can she probably reach 18 titles and match the other greats of the game?  It's possible, but it's not going to be easy, as we have seen today.

Now that Vika knows she can actually match Serena toe-to-toe, that should improve her confidence a lot if she does meet Serena in the future.  Samantha Stosur is another active player nowadays who knows how to defeat Serena, after Stosur won the US Open title last year.  And Serena has to play at such a high level - something that she has shown this summer of 2012 - just to win Wimbledon, the Olympic singles gold and the US Open title.

Can she sustain that high level for the season of 2013?  Well, we do hope so!
